U.S. Route 64: Conway to Beebe – Arkansas

Join us as we drive America’s highways for 37 scenic miles along U.S. Route 64, heading east from Conway to Beebe, Arkansas. This stretch of highway is a unique blend of small-town charm, suburban bustle, and rolling countryside that offers a true glimpse into the heart of central Arkansas.

Our journey begins in northwest Conway as we transition from Arkansas Highway 25 onto U.S. Route 64, initially traveling along Old Morrilton Highway. Within moments, we turn southeast onto Donaghey Avenue, where the route follows a more urban corridor. After just a few blocks, we reach Harkrider Street—also designated U.S. 65 Business—and turn south, passing directly through the historic campus of Hendrix College. This area is a highlight in itself, with tree-lined streets, restored buildings, and a youthful, collegiate atmosphere. As we approach downtown Conway, US-64 peels off again, heading east on Oak Street through the heart of the city.

Once through downtown, U.S. 64 crosses Interstate 40, entering a stretch dominated by commercial development and big-box retail—typical of suburban Conway’s expanding footprint. It doesn’t take long to leave the city behind, though, as the route straightens out into the Arkansas countryside. Around this point, our camera encountered a minor technical hiccup, dropping about 1/8 of a mile of footage—fortunately, nothing too vital was missed.

Continuing east, we approach the junction with Arkansas Highway 36 on the outskirts of Vilonia. Here, U.S. 64 briefly curves to the south to form a bypass around both Vilonia and the nearby community of Beryl. This section of the road has been upgraded to a four-lane divided expressway, making for a smooth and efficient drive with limited stops. After intersecting with Arkansas Highway 107, the new alignment merges back into the original U.S. 64 route just east of town.

As we leave Faulkner County behind, we enter White County near El Paso—marked by a signaled intersection with Arkansas Highway 5. El Paso is a small but notable waypoint, nestled among farmland and gently rolling hills. From here, U.S. 64 continues eastward in earnest, hugging a straight line save for a pair of gentle “S” curves that break up the rural monotony. The terrain here is classically Arkansan: a blend of hardwood forests and agricultural plots, with long sightlines and a rhythm that makes this segment an easy-going pleasure.

Our journey concludes in the city of Beebe, where U.S. 64 carries us to the interchange with Interstate 57. At this point, Route 64 joins I-57 to the north, but we continue straight ahead onto Arkansas Highway 367 to end our ride. Whether you’re making the trip for business, school, or just to enjoy the ride, this leg of U.S. 64 provides a comfortable and scenic connection across Central Arkansas.
