U.S. Highway 270: Sheridan to White Hall – Arkansas

If you’re looking for an easy, eastbound cruise across southern central Arkansas, the stretch of U.S. Highway 270 from Sheridan to White Hall is a classic, small-town American drive with a handful of highlights and a distinctly local flavor. Let’s head out together for the full 18-mile ride, soaking up a little slice of Arkansas along the way.

We kick things off in Sheridan, a friendly Grant County town that serves as a gateway for folks heading east or south. Turning onto U.S. Highway 270 from US-167B, we start off heading east, quickly transitioning into a northeast track as we skirt the eastern edge of town. Not far out of Sheridan, you’ll spot the intersection with Arkansas Highway 46—handy if you want to detour north towards Redfield. As you continue, keep an eye out for the Sheridan Municipal Airport on your right. It’s a small local airstrip, but if you’re into aviation, it’s a neat little landmark.

Leaving the last traces of Sheridan behind, U.S. 270 straightens out and leads us east through open countryside. The landscape here is classic rural Arkansas—rolling timberland, patches of farmland, and the occasional glimpse of ponds and creeks, especially as you approach the tiny community of Center Grove. Just past Center Grove, you’ll cross from Grant County into Jefferson County, a subtle but important transition that’s marked more by changes in scenery than any big signs.

Soon, the route bends southeast toward the community of Midway. This segment is fairly quiet, making it a nice spot to take in some roadside Arkansas without much traffic. Not far past Midway, you’ll encounter the intersection with Arkansas Highway 104, which heads north toward the Pine Bluff Arsenal. From here, you’re practically on the doorstep of White Hall.
