U.S. Route 270

U.S. Route 270 (US 270) is a spur of U.S. Route 70 that stretches approximately 643 miles across three states—Kansas, Oklahoma, and Arkansas. While it shares much of its alignment with other highways, US 270 plays a vital role in connecting rural communities with major cities and facilitating travel through the southern Great Plains and the Ouachita Mountains. Its western terminus is in Liberal, Kansas, at an intersection with US 54, while its eastern terminus is in White Hall, Arkansas, where it merges with Interstate 530 and US 65.

In Oklahoma, US 270 overlaps significantly with other highways including US 64, US 183, US 62, and US 69. One of its most notable stretches passes through the Oklahoma City metro area, where it serves as a key corridor for suburban and commuter traffic. East of the metro, it cuts through rolling forested terrain and scenic landscapes, especially as it approaches southeastern Oklahoma and enters the Ouachita National Forest.

As the route continues into Arkansas, US 270 transitions into a more mountainous and curvy alignment. It passes through the resort town of Hot Springs—home to Hot Springs National Park—where it temporarily functions as a four-lane expressway. The route continues eastward to Pine Bluff before terminating at White Hall. Along the way, it provides access to recreational areas, historical sites, and small communities, making it both a functional highway and a scenic travel route.
