U.S. Route 167

U.S. Route 167 is a north–south U.S. Highway that stretches across two states: Louisiana and Arkansas. Beginning in the southern Louisiana town of Abbeville near the Gulf Coast, the highway travels northward through major cities like Lafayette, Alexandria, and Ruston before entering Arkansas. Once in Arkansas, US 167 continues through El Dorado, Camden, and Sheridan, Little Rock (where it joins US-67 and Interstate 57), Jacksonville, Searcy, Bald Knob, Batesville and eventually terminating in Ash Flat. Along the way, it serves as a vital corridor for rural communities and connects with numerous state highways and interstates, including I-10 and I-49 in Louisiana and I-530 in Arkansas.

Much of the route has seen modernization over the years, with portions upgraded to four-lane divided highways, particularly where US 167 overlaps with other major routes. This is especially true near Lafayette and Alexandria in Louisiana, and along the El Dorado to Little Rock corridor in Arkansas. In many areas, the route functions as a key regional connector, facilitating both commercial and passenger traffic. The highway also provides access to various natural and cultural attractions, such as the Kisatchie National Forest and southern Arkansas’s timber country.

Despite its relatively modest length compared to other U.S. Highways, US 167 plays an important role in linking small towns to urban centers and serves as a key part of the local economies it traverses. Future expansion and improvement plans, particularly in Arkansas, aim to further enhance safety and efficiency along this corridor.
