Starting at the intersection of Washington Avenue (TN-369) and US-79/US-70A, we make our way southwest into the town’s center, passing the junction with TN-54 and turning onto it as we head south toward the courthouse square. This part of the route introduces us to Brownsville’s blend of historic architecture and local government buildings—remnants of a time when the town was a regional hub for cotton farming and river trade. TN-54 brings us to the very heart of downtown, where we make a westward turn onto Main Street, officially joining Tennessee Route 1.
