Our journey along CR-330 begins at a bustling intersection where Arkansas Highway 9 and U.S. Route 65 meet in Choctaw. Despite its modest size, Choctaw is a well-known waypoint for travelers heading north toward Clinton or south toward Morrilton or Conway. Once we turn onto County Road 330, however, the tone of the drive changes instantly. The highway traffic fades behind us as the road dips and rolls through the hilly countryside, framed by groves of pine and hardwoods that are particularly stunning during the fall.
This eastern stretch of CR-330 is as much about the atmosphere as it is about the destination. With few homes and little development along the way, the road feels remote, even though it’s only minutes from major highways. Occasional clearings provide sweeping views of the surrounding forested ridges, while patches of farmland remind us of the area’s agricultural roots. It’s a peaceful, two-lane ribbon of asphalt that curves gently around the terrain without any sharp or aggressive turns, making it perfect for leisurely Sunday drives or quick detours to the lake.
As we approach the final stretch of the route, the land begins to slope gently downward toward the lake basin. The tree canopy breaks just enough to give us a hint of the water shimmering in the distance—Greers Ferry Lake, a sprawling reservoir that has become a centerpiece for outdoor life in this part of Arkansas. County Road 330 comes to an end at the entrance to the Choctaw Recreation Area, a well-maintained U.S. Army Corps of Engineers facility featuring campgrounds, boat ramps, picnic areas, and swimming access.
The recreation area itself is a destination worth the drive. Situated on the northern banks of Greers Ferry Lake, it attracts boaters, anglers, and campers from across the region. The boat ramp is one of the most convenient access points for exploring the lake’s expansive waters, while the day-use area is ideal for picnics and lakeside lounging. Thanks to its proximity to Choctaw and the surrounding towns, this spot is popular yet rarely overcrowded, offering a balance of amenities and natural beauty that’s hard to beat.
