Arkansas Highway 92: Drasco to Greers Ferry

Arkansas Highway 92 offers a short but scenic drive through the rolling terrain and lake-dotted landscape of north-central Arkansas. This 14-mile route takes us from the rural community of Drasco westward into the lakeside town of Greers Ferry. While it’s not a long stretch of road, the drive is full of natural beauty, glimpses of Greers Ferry Lake, and a few charming roadside stops that are worth checking out along the way.

We begin our journey in Drasco at the intersection with Arkansas Highways 5 and 25. This area serves as a quiet junction nestled in the Ozark foothills, where locals and lake-goers often cross paths. Heading west-southwest on Highway 92, the road quickly transitions from rural farmland to more wooded surroundings. The terrain becomes gently rolling, flanked by hardwood forests and small clearings that give us a peek into Arkansas’ natural charm. Just about six miles in, we intersect with Arkansas Highway 263 — a route that can take you deeper into the hills and hollows to the north.

Continuing west on AR-92, the scenery becomes increasingly tied to Greers Ferry Lake, one of Arkansas’ most popular recreation areas. Though we don’t cross the lake directly, the road hugs its northern fork, offering glimpses of coves, inlets, and the distant shimmer of water between the trees. You’ll notice more lake cabins and vacation homes as we get closer to town, a sign that we’re entering the recreational orbit of Greers Ferry. Before reaching the city itself, we cross the southern terminus of Arkansas Highway 225 — a small connector route that loops back toward the lakeshore and offers quick access to marinas and fishing spots.

As we approach the city limits of Greers Ferry, AR-92 continues its lakeside meander before reaching its western terminus at the intersection with Arkansas Highway 16. This is the heart of town, a spot where locals gather and travelers often stop for fuel, food, or to stock up before heading out on the lake. From here, AR-16 continues west toward the Greers Ferry Dam and eventually Heber Springs, while AR-92’s journey ends — but the possibilities for further exploration certainly don’t.

If you’ve got the time, Greers Ferry itself offers plenty to explore. From the historic dam built by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in the 1960s, to the sweeping views at nearby Sugarloaf Mountain, and the boating, fishing, and camping opportunities that abound along the lake, this stretch of highway is a gateway to outdoor adventure.
