Arkansas Highway 305: Floyd to Center Hill

Take a scenic ride through the quiet heart of White County as we follow Arkansas Highway 305 for 8 peaceful miles from the small community of Floyd to the rural crossroads of Center Hill. This northbound route may not cover a huge distance, but it offers a solid glimpse into the day-to-day life and landscape of this part of central Arkansas. With its rolling hills, open pastures, and tree-lined curves, AR-305 delivers a stretch of highway that’s as tranquil as it is functional.

We begin our journey in Floyd at the intersection with Arkansas Highway 31. Floyd is a small, unincorporated community that serves mostly as a residential hub for the surrounding farmland. There’s not much in the way of commercial development here—just a few homes, churches, and rural service buildings. But that’s part of its charm. As we head northeast, the road gently climbs and dips through classic Arkansas countryside: fenced-in pastures, wooded patches, and the occasional tractor or livestock trailer making its way down the road.

One of the nice things about this drive is how untouched it feels. There are no fast food signs or shopping centers, just the hum of tires on pavement and the occasional mailbox standing guard at the edge of a gravel driveway. You’ll pass a few scattered homes—some older, some newer—and several working farms that give a sense of the deep agricultural roots of the region. In spring and early summer, the roadside vegetation is lush, and you’ll likely spot wildflowers blooming in the ditches.

As we continue north, we stay firmly in rural territory. Highway 305 doesn’t pass through any towns between Floyd and Center Hill, but the scenery makes up for the lack of major landmarks. This part of White County is a patchwork of fields and wooded groves, and it’s not unusual to see deer or wild turkeys crossing the road if you’re driving around dawn or dusk. The pavement is generally in good condition, and traffic is light, making it a comfortable drive whether you’re commuting, cruising, or just out exploring the backroads.

The route ends in Center Hill, where AR-305 meets Arkansas Highway 36 just a few miles west of Searcy. Center Hill is another unincorporated area, but its location near the junction of two state highways gives it a bit more activity—at least by rural standards. From here, you can head east into Searcy for dining, shopping, or lodging, or continue west on AR-36 to reach the communities of Rose Bud and beyond.

While Highway 305 may not be a destination route, it’s a pleasant drive that fits right into the network of quiet Arkansas roads linking the state’s rural heartland. Whether you’re a local or a road enthusiast exploring new territory, this short but scenic trip offers a relaxing snapshot of central Arkansas life.
